Our Mission Statement
The BBCHS Science Club is an organization for all students that exists as a platform for success to promote STEM literacy and career education for its members by providing enrichment activities, service projects, community involvement and leadership roles. Participation in the BBCHS Science Club is an opportunity to supplement and accelerate scientific understanding and practices beyond the school’s NGSS-aligned curriculum. Through teacher involvement, student driven decisions, opportunities for individual research, and supplementary endeavors, the BBCHS Science Club empowers students to reach their full potential and to think critically and creatively to investigate the universe in which we live.
A Message For Our Community
Hello! Glad to see you've ventured onto our website. I'm a student at BBCHS (that's me up there!) and I started Science Club as a sophomore. The club has presented me with so many diverse experiences and challenges to rise to, and my time with Science Club has been just as enjoyable as it has been a tremendous learning experience.
As a freshman, my honors biology class was presented with an assignment. Nine weeks, no rules, just find something in science that interests you, and study it. Invent something. Experiment. Make a difference. We, as students, are so rarely given opportunities that allow us to choose our path of study. That free choice that forced us to to care about something in science also fostered meaningful and intentional learning. Nine weeks of swabbing samples, making agar, and staining my fingers with malachite green later, I had completed a great project--and had a great idea.
I was fascinated every second we spent in the lab, and incredibly lucky to execute an experiment usually saved for college students as freshmen in high school. So I got to thinking, wouldn't it be great if other students had more opportunities (like the one that inspired me) to develop a love for the sciences? And what better way than starting BBCHS's first science club.
Thanks to a team of dedicated officers, Science Club brings activities, field trips, community guests, and research opportunities to all students of BBCHS. We seek to plan a diverse range of events for all types of interests and ability levels. We challenge you to try something new in science--you might be surprised at where it leads you. I welcome you all to The BBCHS Science Club and thank you for your support. Boiler up!
